After running for the first time in years I laced up in the spring of 2014 and became addicted to it. Over Christmas of 2014 I decided that I need a bigger challenge. I had worked my way up to 10km runs, and while they were still difficult and a lot of work I thought “I can do more”. So on Christmas Eve I registered as a charity runner in the Ottawa 1/2 Marathon. It took me some time to decide on the training method I wanted to use but finally settled on joining a training group. I joined the January 1/2 Marathon group with the Running Room Kitchener and within a few days started my greatest challenge next to motherhood.
I knew going into it that there would be weeks where I just wouldn’t be able to log the km’s as I would like due to work and kids. This just makes success sweater in the end. It means I need to work harder on the days I can run. This blog was started the third week of the program during my slow time. I am hoping to continue to draw motivation through writing this. You never know, maybe I will motivate others to lace up and begin a new challenge in their lives too.
I am 37 years old, have been married 7.5 years and have two wonderful kids ages 6 and 4. My husband and I both work full-time shift work…opposite shifts. My kids are involved in dance and skating which takes up most of our time. Fitting in time for myself is not easy and will get more challenging as the kids progress in their dancing. I started running in the spring of 2014 and fell in love. I enjoy racing 5k and have worked my way up to 10k and now a 1/2 marathon is on its way. I have been involved in the Weekend to End Women’s Cancer for the past three years, twice as a walker and once as a volunteer. I also participate in an air band show for the Children’s Wish Foundation every year. I love spending time with my family and cuddling with my kids. I equally love fine dining, wine, craft beer and Scotch. A perfect Saturday for me would be cuddling in the morning with my kids as they watch their favorite show, and I sip my coffee. Then work up a good sweat on a warm sunny afternoon while out for a run. Finishing the day with my husband or friends visiting, eating, having a few drinks and some laughs.
